Saint Joseph Preparatory High School

School Profile

Saint Joseph Preparatory High School, a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston, is the coming together of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Trinity Catholic High School. Founded in 1885 under sponsorship of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston, Mount Saint Joseph Academy has a history of 127 years of educating generations of young women, always seeking “excellence tempered by gentleness.” Founded in 1893 and most recently affiliated with Our Lady, Help of Christians Parish in Newton, Trinity Catholic High School has been staffed during its 117-year history by both the Sisters of Charity and the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Together, Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Trinity Catholic have served Newton, Brighton and the greater Boston area for a combined total of almost 250 years.

Saint Joseph Preparatory High School honors this inspiring tradition by continuing to advance the mission of Catholic education. We are committed to providing a rigorous academic program, marked by intellectual excellence; to creating a close-knit school family, marked by genuine respect; to developing a broad range of extra-curricular activities, marked by enthusiastic participation; and to offering a rich spiritual life, marked by authentic prayer. Our promise to provide an extraordinary intellectual education, as well as an exemplary personal formation, grounded in Christian values and morals, represents a continuation of the tremendous legacy we have inherited. It is this legacy that guides and informs the mission of Saint Joseph Preparatory High School.

The decision to create Saint Joseph Preparatory High School was inspired by the need to maintain a vibrant, competitive, operationally efficient, and fiscally sustainable Catholic secondary school option for families in Allston-Brighton, Newton, and surrounding neighborhoods and communities.  This new co-educational institution will follow best practices established by educators and researchers and will maintain great sensitivity to the wishes of parents and students from both predecessor schools. Saint Joseph Preparatory High School will serve young women and men in a co-educational program focused on academic excellence in all areas—English, history, mathematics, science, language, theology, and the fine arts. Special emphasis will be placed on developing in students the high level of technological skill and literacy they will need to excel in college and to succeed in life. The student body will be a richly diverse, embracing young men and women from all cultures and creeds, races and religions, forming a unique, multicultural family that will embody the inclusivity of the gospel message. Opportunities for personal and communal prayer, celebration of the Eucharist, and community service—both local and beyond—will encourage students to see the grace of the Catholic faith and to grow in their own relationships with God.
