St. Scholastica Academy is owned by the Archdiocese of New Orleans and is governed by the Archbishop of New Orleans. As a Catholic school, SSA is part of the educational ministry of the Church and, as such, does not have a separate legal identity. The Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Schools, headed by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, monitors the religious and academic programs of the school to ensure that they comply with Archdiocesan and State policies. SSA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, or athletic and other school-administered programs. The Principal is ultimately responsible for the entire school program and campus facilities and the administrative team is responsible for the implementation of the school's program, including religious education. The St. Scholastica Academy School Board advises the Principal in various school matters including implementation of school policies, goals and objectives. The Administrative Team, composed of the Principal, Dean of Academics, Dean of Students, Director of Guidance, and Director of Finance functions in a collaborative, collegial manner using shared decision processes to develop policies and procedures.
MISSION St. Scholastica Academy is a Catholic, all-girls, college-preparatory high school located in Covington, Louisiana. Founded in 1903, SSA perpetuates the Benedictine tradition of balancing prayer, work, study, and community in developing adolescent girls into Christian women grounded in the Gospel values of the Catholic faith. PHILOSOPHY St. Scholastica Academy provides a challenging program for young women in a Christian environment. Committed to the education of young women, the school fosters the development of leadership, self-confidence, motivation, service to others and academic achievement. As a college-preparatory school, SSA consciously strives to provide an atmosphere for intellectual growth in which students are given opportunities to become independent, critical thinkers, capable of functioning in society today and in the future. As a Catholic school, SSA teaches the basic truths of the Catholic faith and fosters the student뭩 moral development based on Gospel values. The faculty, staff and student body together create a Christ-centered community of mutual respect and care. SSA sees itself as having a responsibility to the community at large. Educated to an awareness of the needs of others, students are actively encouraged to respond generously as responsible members of the community. Grounded in tradition, the school maintains an openness to embracing new responses to the challenges of an ever-changing society in which women have a unique and major role. |
