Our Lady of Good Counsel High School

The Xaverian Brothers established Our Lady of Good Counsel in 1958 at the invitation of Patrick Cardinal O'Boyle, as a Catholic high school for boys. With the support of Archbishop James Hickey, Good Counsel announced in the fall of 1986 that it would become coeducational in 1988. Our students are drawn from throughout the Metropolitan Washington Area.

The Xaverian Brothers, educators since 1839, sponsor college preparatory high schools in Alabama, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey, as well as Belgium, Bolivia, England, and Zaire. The Brothers first opened schools in the United States at Louisville, Kentucky over 100 years ago.

In 2008 Our Lady of Good Counsel celebrated it's 50th year.

As an International Baccalaureate school located in the metropolitan Washington DC area, Good Counsel has a rich tradition of offering programs that give our students opportunities to make a deep impact in the world. Since 1958, Good Counsel has helped countless students launch impressive careers internationally, including Ambassador John Berry ’77, Lockheed Martin executive Martin T. Stanislav '82, and Hollywood movie star Rick Yune '89.

The Global Programs welcomes students from around the world to join us for a Good Counsel education that is based on building enduring friendships and strong leadership skills for the challenges of tomorrow.

We are pleased to provide our international students with a wide range of rigorous academic curricula designed to prepare them for the 21st-century global society, including IB, AP, STEM, and more.

We offer a rich high school experience, including retreats, service projects, and fun events throughout the year. International students also enjoy personalized mentorship, counseling, and peer tutoring.
