Portland Christian Schools

School Profile

Portland Christian is first and foremost a Christian school, built upon Jesus Christ as our foundation. Standing firmly on that foundation we hold to a number of guiding principles as we fulfill our mission to educate students in the truth of God's word in every area of instruction and activity, so that their lives may be transformed by the renewing of their minds:

Independent - PCS is an autonomous, self-governing school system, receiving no funds or managerial oversight from any denomination or governmental agency. PCS is governed in its policies and administration by a Constitution which was adopted at the inception of the school. Policy is developed by the PCS Board of Trustees which consists of school parents elected by the Society (school parents). Administration is managed by the Superintendent, who oversees all operations and is accountable to the Board of Trustees.

Non-denominational - PCS is not associated with any church or denomination. With over 100 different congregations represented among our students and staff, we honor and celebrate diversity within the many Christian faith traditions.

Biblically based - At PCS we take the Bible seriously and incorporate biblical principles into every class. We strive to help our students develop critical thinking skills from a biblical perspective.

Excellence - Our standard is excellence in every area -- academics, athletics, arts...and life! Excellence may mean earning an "A" in a class, but it may also mean receiving a "C" that was earned with blood, sweat, and tears. Excellence may mean winning a championship, but it may also mean losing with grace and sportsmanship. Excellence may mean putting on a star performance, but it may also mean supporting your colleagues who falter. At PCS, excellence is about not only performance, but also character, and faith.

Mission Statement

  • It is the mission of Portland Christian Schools to educate students in the truth of God’s word in every area of instruction and activity, so that their lives may be transformed by the renewing of their minds.

Vision

  • Portland Christian Schools will become one of the Northwest’s leading Christian Schools providing its students with a thriving, spiritually dynamic Christian education with the goal of students passing the baton of godly leadership to the next generation. In the process, Portland Christian Schools will demonstrate financial integrity, striving to become debt free, while establishing endowments for student aid, faculty compensation, and expansion of facilities.

Core Values

  • All Board, Administration, Faculty and Staff (including coaches), must be able to demonstrate that they understand and model a biblical world and life view and are committed to the spiritual, academic, physical, emotional and social development of each student.

  • Students will be taught to develop a biblical world and life view and be challenged to live according to biblical standards.

  • Critical thinking skills shall be taught so that students will have the tools to evaluate their current culture and climate in light of God’s Word.

  • Each student shall be encouraged to love the Lord their God with their whole heart and mind to the end that each one be compelled to reach out in love to others both at home and around the world.
